Located at the southern tip of Patagonia, in the region of Magallanes, Chile, Puerto Natales is the gateway to the spectacular Torres del Paine National Park in southern Chile, a “must” for travellers heading Ushuaia from El Calafate or Punta Arenas, and vice versa .The city is located 165 miles northwest of Punta Arenas and 250 miles south of El Calafate, lying on the Señoret channel, Puerto Natales is the provincial capital of “Ultima Esperanza” and it has a population of 15.000 inhabitants. The city lies on the sea, has a beautiful Boulevard from where you get all the territory around Puerto Natales, mainly dominated by cattle ranches, the mountainous, crossed by the Señoret channel and the glacier Balmaceda background. Puerto Natales is the ideal base for excursions to National Park and stop on the journey to Ushuaia or Calafate. Puerto Natales is connected with buses to the National Park, El Calafate Punta Arenas from where it combines with the bus to Ushuaia. By land is linked to El Calafate, Punta Arenas and Rio Turbio, here is the border crossing to Argentina in Dorothea to enter Rio Turbio heading to El Calafate.
In Puerto Natales there is organized tours to Torres del Paine National Park, among which are: Milodon Cave, former home of a mammal that was over 3 meters tall, visiting glaciers Balmaceda and Serrano + Bernardo O’Higgins national park, the Full Day tour that runs Paine National Park back in the day. One of the most beautiful and exciting ways to enter the National Park is with the “Rio Arriba navigation”, without a doubt the best and most exciting entrance to the Torres del Paine, visiting the Balmaceda and Serrano Glaciers and from here on Zodiac upriver to the Serrano area.
